Estate Rubertino Red Blend 2021
Estate Rubertino Red Blend Tasting Notes: Full-bodied with medium-high tannin. Fruit forward with aromas of black plum and strawberries. Additional notes of black pepper, leather, cinnamon, and hickory. Giuseppe (Joseph) Rubertino was born in 1890 in Campobasso, Italy. He was the maternal grandfather of Nella Terra’s founder, Gerry Beemiller. In 1910, as a young man, Joseph voyaged from struggling Italy to the land of opportunity, the promising United States, in hopes of a better life. With nothing except the clothes on his back and the knowledge of how to make homemade wine, he settled with a distant family in Cleveland, Ohio where he met and married Anna D’arcangelo and had 4 kids. With zero English vocabulary, the only job he could get was digging graves; he used to joke that the dirt in his fingernails made his homemade wine more compelling. Joseph Rubertino is the inspiration for the name Nella Terra which translates to Into The Earth, where he spent his days and made his living. When young Gerry was young, his Grandpa started serving him a shot glass of his homemade wine with dinner. This experience later sparked the inspiration in Gerry that drove him to start a winery in the Sunol Highlands with an Italian name in honor of his Italian grandfather. In 2021, we harvested our first Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from our vineyard we grow in headtrained-style; the old school way as a tribute to this old-school man
