South Block Six 2021

a Pinot Noir from Sonoma CoastCA

In Burgundy, France, the highest level of vineyard classification is Grand Cru, or those appellations that are considered the elite within the growing region. While California does not have such a classification system, if ever there were an “elite” vineyard classification system within the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations, Platt Vineyard would sit squarely within this classification. Located in the westernmost hills of Sebastopol, near Freestone, sitting at elevations that range from 400 feet to 800 feet, and situated just 5 miles from the Pacific coastline, the vineyard is planted to a mélange of Pinot Noir clones. At 31 acres, our vineyard parcel is located in the southwestern facing Block 6. This wine opens with aromatic concentrations of blue fruits, blue herbs, native wildflowers and a dash of fresh salted earth. The mouthfeel engages curiosity with breathtaking expansiveness, acidity and savory glide that finishes with substantial length on the palate. This is a full, yet balanced Pinot Noir that rewards the senses with each sip.

Croix Estate

Visiting Croix Estate requires advance reservations, as our private tastings are held primarily for Allocation List members, with limited access to the general public. If you love luxury micro-production, single-vineyard Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, this is the spot for you!

One must be seriously audacious to succeed in wine growing.

To work in wine is to work incredibly hard. It is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. It requires deep knowledge in agriculture, science, and business with an instinct for what comprises fine art. It takes vision, patience, grit and being on the right side of serendipity, often.  It is as equally uplifting as it is heartbreaking, as preparedness is no guarantee of success.

This understanding finds truth in the founding of Croix Estate and where we find ourselves in this moment.  Croix Estate began with our founding vintage in 2012, followed by the opening of our winery in 2018, and the steadfast continuance to achieve perfection in the glass annually.

The initial concept of Croix was a quixotic collage of random ideas and wines: shock art labels, uncommon grape varieties, uncommon wine regions, no wine made more than one vintage, and on it went from idea to idea, most of which were done, being done, or being re-conceptualized by many others in search of repurposed uniqueness within the winemaking community. Rather than chase a creative, newly used concept, we determined to distill the purpose of Croix Estate into a fundamental pursuit of perfection.
